“Barcelona, archives of courtesy, the shelter of the foreigners, hospital of the poor, father-land of the brave, the vengeance of the offended and pleasant correspondence of firm friendship, and in the site, and in beauty, unique.” – Miguel de Cervantes
In Europe, no getaway is better than the amazing city of Barcelona. It is the perfect city as it offers beautiful architecture, great city life and public transport, and the best part, a beautiful beach. In order to cover most of the highlights of the city, a trip of about 3-4 days should be enough.
Below is a list of the many things you can do in a Barcelona city trip…
- Take a flight to Barcelona and wander around the city
First take some time to relax and start off slowly, as you may be exhausted from the flight you just had. Go to the Arc de Triomf of Barcelona by taking the bus, taxi, or subway. This is where your trip starts with a walk.
- Palau de la Música
After that, continue to Palau de la Música Catalana by taking a short 10-minute walk through the popular neighborhood of El Born. This is a district inside the historic center of the city, with art galleries, boutique shops, and small streets.
- Barcelona Cathedral
Make your way to the Cathedral of Barcelona from Palau de la Música. You will enter one of the most beautiful and oldest districts in Barcelona known as the Gothic Quarter district. It owns loads of restaurants, little bars, and shops.
- See the best of Gaudí’s masterpieces in a Barcelona City Trip
Wake up sunshine! Today is all about the genius Antoni Gaudi’s creative mind. He was able to architect famous sights in Barcelona in the last decade, which are now known worldwide. You’d be amazed to know that Parc Guell is even named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
- Park Guell
Start your day at Park Guell. This park is called the most creative park in the whole world. In order to avoid the crowds, get there as early as possible. Via their website, you can also buy tickets in advance at $8.5 per ticket.
Since they only allow a specific number of people per time block, it is recommended that you do this. But don’t worry if you don’t want to enter the park as it is also possible to take photos of Gaudi’s artwork without getting a ticket.
You can easily get here by bus. In order to get the correct bus number from the place you’re staying at, use Google Maps for help. You will just need approximately 1-2 hours in the park.
Continue your tour by getting into a bus 24 back to the city center. Get out at Casa Batllo. Now, you will be near Casa Mila and Casa Batllo. Mind you, visiting both of these spots can be a bit expensive. Gaudi’s creative mastermind and exceptional design has brought to life both of these houses.
Upon heading inside, you can learn everything about how it was built and its architecture. The view from the top is good too.
The entrance Tickets fee for a single house visit is $25.
- Sagrada Familia
Now this will be the last, and probably the best of part of your day. La Sagrada Familia is nothing like you’ve ever seen!
It has been under construction since 1882, and people say that it’s almost done. The cathedral was one of the latest projects of Gaudi which he had worked on until his death.
The church’s ticket will cost you about $16. If you don’t want to head inside, you can also marvel at it from the outside. Take a walk in front of the Sagrada through the little park if you want the perfect photo or just want to relax in shade, taking cover from the sun.
- Never say Goodbye…
Coming to your last day or day before you leave, let’s follow a slower pace. Start your final day trip at the port at one of the Cable Car stations. This will take to the top of a hill in Barcelona named Montjuic, which overlooks the Barcelona harbor.
- Jardin de Mossen Costa
You will get a beautiful view over the city once you are on top. From here, you can visit the picturesque garden of Jardin de Mossen Costa. Check out the Montjuic Castle too besides the garden.
- Barcelona Beach area
Start a small walk through the beautiful Barceloneta neighborhood after you make your way down. Head towards the beach and relax for a few hours from there.
Restaurants to try in a Barcelona City Trip
And as Anthony Bourdain rightly said – “You’d have a hard time finding anything better than Barcelona for food, as far as being a hub.”
There are many great restaurants in Barcelona like the following:
- Surf House Barcelona
- Flax & Kale
- Set de Born
- Carabela Cafe
